The Finance Analyst programme offers a unique opportunity for you to gain both broad and deep experience of the business, with a high level of responsibility early in your career with Morgan Stanley.

As an Analyst in Finance, you will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals and qualified accountants in producing daily profit and loss, month-end reporting, and process improvements, as well as resolving queries with the trading desks. You will work closely with the business units and with Operations.

The Finance Division consists of three core areas: Corporate Treasury, Tax, and Financial Control Group.

Corporate Treasury
Corporate Treasury manages Morgan Stanley's financial resources on a global basis to help achieve the firm's commercial objectives. Corporate Treasury is responsible for:

• Providing corporate finance advisory services to senior management and the business unit
• Maintaining the firm's liquidity
• Accessing multi-currency short and long-term financing
• Managing the firm's foreign exchange and interest rate exposure

Tax
The Tax department, through planning, advisory and compliance functions, manages the global tax risk for Morgan Stanley.

Financial Control Group
The Financial Control Group supports firm management, both for Morgan Stanley as a whole and the individual business units. They manage the firm's risk by implementing financial controls over its business activities.

The Analyst Programme in Finance
How the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

Analysts will be assigned to roles across Finance that best match their skills and interests. Analysts will be provided with classroom and project-based training to provide them with business, technical and professional knowledge. The curriculum for the Programme includes an orientation to the firm, overview of the securities industry, senior speaker seminars, extensive functional knowledge training, accounting and systems training.  In addition, the Programme provides development of key personal and professional competencies and social and networking events to build the Analyst's professional network. Analysts are also assigned peer advisors to aid their smooth transition into the organization.

Launching Your Career
What you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the Programme

Analysts will undertake tasks such as:

• Calculating the daily profit and loss tallies of traders
• Writing market commentaries for management reporting
• Conducting reengineering projects to review and enhance processes
• Using analytical tools to determine current and potential exposure to risk
• Preparing monthly financial and management reports

Developing Your Career
What you can expect as you progress through and complete the Programme

The Finance Management team takes a keen interest in your progress as an Analyst. During the first two years of your career, we encourage you to further your professional qualifications. Analysts have the opportunity to begin the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification, which is an industry-recognized qualification and take the first module of the Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ) of the Securities Investment Institute.

In addition to the professional qualifications, you will be provided with training in how to manage your career and how to develop key personal development skills.  We have created a supportive environment in which your training, coupled with on-the-job coaching, can enable you to make rapid progress and take on considerable responsibilities.  Once you have fully developed your skills within your first role, our internal mobility Programme can help you take your career to the next level.

Requirements
The Finance Analyst Programme requires an undergraduate degree with a minimum 2.1 or equivalent in any degree discipline. Degrees such as Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, or Economics are particularly relevant.  Strong candidates will also possess leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. 

Selection Process
Selected applicants will be invited to attend an assessment day, which will include a group exercise, numerical testing, and interviews with experienced professionals from the business.

The Finance Industrial Placement Programme is a 48-week Industrial Placement Programme for undergraduates who are completing a four-year degree with a year in industry as a requirement of their degree.  The Programme provides in-depth exposure to the finance industry and serves as a pipeline into our full-time Finance Analyst Programme.  We provide students with challenging assignments, giving us the opportunity to assess their skills and contributions.  The placements will provide students with a thorough overview of our industry, and the challenges and opportunities one can expect from a Morgan Stanley career. Industrial Placements will get the opportunity to work closely with colleagues on tasks such as:

• Calculating the daily profit and loss tallies of traders
• Writing market commentaries for management reporting
• Conducting reengineering projects to review and enhance processes
• Using analytical tools to determine current and potential exposure to risk
• Preparing monthly financial and management reports

The Programme includes an orientation to the firm, presentations that give a broad understanding of the organization, professional skills training, and social/networking events.  Industrial Placements are also assigned peer advisors to aid their smooth transition into the organization.

Throughout the year you would continue to benefit from structured and on-the-job training coupled with advice and guidance from mentors and colleagues. Regular evaluations keep your learning and progress on track.
