Your Opportunity as an Analyst in Credit Risk Management

An overview of this programme’s objectives and how you can benefit

Credit Risk Analysts play an important role in facilitating the business development initiatives of our Investment Banking and Sales & Trading divisions. As a result, you will work closely with almost every division of the firm, and gain diverse experience and a broad perspective on the firm's functions. You may support Senior Analysts in their analyses of counterparties to assess the credit and financial strength of the firm's loan and trading counterparties. This involves quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess the probability of default and resulting loss, and conducting thorough due diligence of companies' strategies, management, and financial strength.

The Analyst Programme in Credit Risk
How the programme works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

The three-year Credit Risk Management Analyst Programme is an intensive, hands-on experience. You are typically exposed to all areas of Credit Risk Management and become an important member of the team, with rapidly ascending levels of responsibility under the guidance of more experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities vary between departments in Credit Risk Management. You could be:

  • Performing detailed credit analyses of Morgan Stanley's trading and loan counterparties, including multinational corporations, financial institutions, funds, or sovereigns
  • Presenting rating recommendations to Credit Committees
  • Conducting research and presenting the risks of a particular industry or sector
  • Assisting in the approval process by analysing the risk in various loan or complex derivative transactions
  • Participating in the client due diligence process
  • Modelling the risk of transactions
  • Interacting with Sales & Trading, Legal, Operations & Compliance departments to ensure appropriate documentation, limits and risk mitigants to protect against a counterpart default and minimise potential losses
  • Monitoring, managing and reporting exposures at a counterpart, product and portfolio level

Launching Your Career
The initial training that you receive on starting the programme

As the programme has been designed to give you exposure to the full range of the firm's products as quickly as possible, you will find yourself on a very steep learning curve. You typically begin with three weeks of training, covering both technical and soft skills. Once you join your team, you will then begin an extensive programme of on-the-job learning. Credit Risk Management is generally supportive towards individuals interested in relevant professional qualifications, such as CFA and Securities Institute Diplomas.

Developing Your Career
What you can expect as you progress through and complete the programme

At the end of the three-year programme, successful candidates may be able to continue within Credit Risk or may be encouraged to explore positions in other parts of the firm.
